Abstract

Introduction: Cost-of-Illness Studies are frequently used for economic evaluations in health to describe the financial impact caused by a particular disease or condition of heath, approaching the social cost. Objectives: To propose a model for partial evaluation of cost-disease using secondary data available for public access and that applies to the Brazilian context, especially with respect to reportable diseases. Methods: The model presented includes direct medical and non- -medical costs, lost productivity, potential years of life lost and loss of income due to death. It also proposes methods for estimating each of these variables that make up the presented model, ba[1]sed on existing knowledge, but by making some adjustments that can improve your application. Results: Through of presented model, cost estimates can be made using open access secondary data, even though they may present some limitations. Conclusions: The plausibility of such a study is to obtain the approximate cost of a disease, that is useful information for interaction between stakeholders (researchers, managers and community) and to improve management practices in health and environment.
