Abstract

The concept of disease management appeared during the 1990’s and evolved to the present days building its methodological basis in an environment of continuous changes. It has been now accepted that those programs when appropriated designed and implemented can reduce costs and improve quality of health care. The current article reviews the history of disease management in the US its achievements, issues and future directions.
