Objective: Evaluate the efficiency variation of hospitals corporization process in Portugal, between 2002 and 2013. Methods: In order to measure efficiency scores, used the Data Envelopment Analysis, which considers the maximum value of a proportion of outputs (Outputs) against a weighted set of inputs (resources used). The target population was the public company hospitals, between 2002 and 2013. Cost and production data were obtained through a critical review of the literature (management reports of the Ministry of Health). Results: Relative efficiency increased over the study period. While in 2002 about 69.4% of hospital units were considered inefficient, compared to each other in 2013, this figure improved by 27.3 percentage points, with 42.1% of inefficient units. Con[1]clusions: The adoption of business management improved the performance of hospital units over those that remained in the Public Administrative Sector and were not subject to any transformation in their legal format.
